The batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar of India yesterday called to devote National Sports Day to the sportswomen who have made the nation proud.

Even the National Sports Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of baseball maestro Major Dhyan Chand, who was often called ‘The Wizard’ . He was born on August 29, 1905.

On August 27, girls shuttlers PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the World Badminton Championships at Glasgow.

These showing by gymnasts Dipa Karmakar, grappler Sakshi Malik and paralympian shot-putter Deepa Malik at the Rio Olympics of a year.

“We should all give this #NationalSportsDay into the sportswomen of the nation for making us proud in their respective fields. #LoveSports,” Tendulkar tweeted.

Native Americans Today: Montana Heritage Day May Replace Columbus Day Back in Montana

If state lawmakers in Montana pass the   House Bill 322, Oct. 9 will not be renowned as Columbus Day. It would be renamed as Montana Heritage Day.

The proposition, pitched by Bridget Smith, also a Democrat representing the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in eastern Montana, was not opposed Wednesday, as it was presented. It’ll be voted on by the home committee in the coming days, according to NBC Montana. Notably, with seven bookings, this section comprises the biggest non-white of the state demographic.

“When children discover the fact they realize they’re being manipulated and manipulated, though they may not know why. When Indian children discover the real history, the fact fosters resentment and in addition, they know they’re being portrayed as less than … It is time we quit instruction lies and realign ourselves with men are born equal,” Smith said, according to   Bozeman Daily Chronicle. Smith denounced German explorer Christopher Columbus’ heritage for its acts of genocide he committed on the people he met.

Montana could join the long list of towns which have substituted Columbus Day with Indigenous Day parties, in an effort to produce the holiday feel inclusive if accepted. This was indicated as Montana Heritage Day for more inclusiveness, even though the Montana legislator also wanted to alter the title of the vacation to Native Day.

“Montana belongs to all of us. Montana Heritage Day can be a source of pride which unites us,” Smith explained, according to Bozeman daily chronicle.

The controversy supporting Columbus Day has been a continuing problem for towns and is not brand new. Last year, eight new towns — Albuquerque, New Mexico; Lawrence, Kansas; Portland, Oregon; St. Paul, Minnesota; Bexar County, Texas; Anadarko, Oklahoma; Olympia, Washington; and Alpena, Michigan — combined the likes of Seattle and Minneapolis to replace Columbus Day.

With the issue of migration being a fundamental motif from the U.S. elections this past year, and now with President Donald Trump’s travel ban, it can be worth listening to the late Latin American historian Eduardo Galeano. In a discussion with Amy Goodman for “Democracy Now,” Galeano discussed border restrictions from the 21st century and contrasted them with all the legends of conquistadors.  

“Christopher Columbus could not discover America, because he did not possess a visa or even a passport. Because he could have been carrying the influenza, measles, smallpox or other lands, Pedro Alvares Cabral could not get off the ship in Brazil. …  Along with also the Mayflower pilgrims were shipped back to sea from the shore of Massachusetts: the immigration quotas were complete,” he said, quoting an extract from his book.

Maroa-Forsyth gets National Recognition for Safe Sports

Jan 11 — Maroa-Forsyth has been given with the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Safe Sports School Award.

This award winning program was started in 2014 to recognize schools which help to keep young athletes secure. It acknowledges secondary schools which provide secure environments for student athletes and awards champion safety. It also reinforces the value of offering the best level of therapy, injury prevention, and care.

Mind Athletic Trainer at Maroa-Forsyth, Matt Munjoy, stated they’ve been working hard to keep athletes safe. “Within the last couple years, me together with Athletic Director Phil Applebee and Principal Brice Stewart, are putting policies together to continue to keep athletes, parents, and coaches on exactly the identical page. We are doing this to make sure we’re doing everything we can to earn a secure environment for our student athletes.” Munjoy went to mention they work from sprains and breaks into concussion prevention.

Munjoy is just one of fifteen Certified Athletic Trainers based from Decatur Memorial Hospital. Area schools that are thirteen are serviced around by them based on Munjoy. The coach Jeff Rounds, for MacArthur High School, has been serving his faculty for a long time according to Munjoy.

To be able to achieve this award, athletic programs must meet a set of requirements such as: establishing a positive athletic healthcare administrative system; organizing or providing pre-participation physical assessments; providing a permanent, appropriately equipped region to assess and treat injured athletes; and some other requirements. Munjoy stated for estimating the application of Maroa has those fulfilled for a while, but chose to enter their application. He hopes this award will show how important it is to have trainers in schools. “There are a lot of schools which are performing a lot of good things. The simple fact that we’re out there daily places those schools available for winning this award.”

Maroa-Forsyth High School Principal Brice Stewart stated, “Maroa-Forsyth is honored to get this 1st Team recognition from NATA, and we remain dedicated to keeping our students athletes secure during physical education courses, team clinics, and games so they can achieve their own goals of excellent competition, winning records, fair sportsmanship and great health.”
